Inclusivity , Trust , Listening - to solve wicked problems such as Covid or Climate Change

Great insights from Miriam Kurtzig Freedman, JD, MA on 3 core ingredients needed to solve wicked problems!

If we are going to solve wicked problems such as Covid or Climate Change - we need to be inclusive and to be inclusive we need to trust …. and to trust we need to be able to listen

In this current Covid Challenge , did  we listen to all voices or silence many? Especially those who dared to think in a different way...  and those who lost dearly through it all - causing suicide, failed business and bankruptcies.

So now,  we move to climate...

I worry again that our view will be myopic (is that a word?)-- and focus on one thing. Temperature? Carbon? Wind? Solar? Nuclear (OOPS!)? Bicycles? Whatever.

If we truly care and want to solve this, we need to be inclusive. Start by ending the labels we give people --"greens" or "deniers" or whatever.

Listen to people. Even those on "the other side." What is their concern?  We are in two (or more camps). Very dangerous, as I see it.

We can't move forward as a nation or a world without having the people's faith and trust and we can't get that without listening, as well as talking. (Again, back to COVID and the vaccines. Don't call them "anti vaxers." Listen to them. In climate, how about not calling them "deniers."  )

Ask, instead, what are the concerns? Blocks? What do they want? What is their world? Let's talk together without calling them "crazy" or giving them other labels....  etc. etc. etc.... labels are bad and divisive.

Trust-sorely missing in so much of our modern times and so many institutions, etc.....is the coin of the realm. It's the WANT. It's what we all want. Let's go for that!  Trust is the goal.

Once we build that, the rest will work itself out, I can see... Can you? Can we?  I also do wonder these days, who the leader is that we can trust?  Do you have one in mind? Do you know?
