Hate Crimes Against Jews in Australia: A Shameful Consequence of Weak Leadership

The recent surge in hate crimes against the Jewish community in Australia is deeply disturbing and should be a wake-up call for our nation.

Fueled by demonstrations that often include chants advocating for the annihilation of millions of Jews, phrases like “from the river to the sea,” and overt support for terrorism, these events have spiraled into a dangerous wave of violence and intimidation.

These hate crimes are happening under your watch - Anthony Albanese and Penny Wong -

Prime Minister, your repeated statements of “I have done all I can” ring hollow in the face of these continued atrocities. The solutions are not complex:

We are watching  our country, once a beacon of multiculturalism and safety, becomes a place where hate thrives under the guise of “free speech” and protests are allowed to descend into incitement and violence.

Even after ceasefires abroad, the rhetoric and actions here at home continue to escalate. This is no longer just about global conflicts—it is about a failure of leadership in protecting Australian citizens and maintaining the values of safety, inclusion, and zero tolerance for hate

“We must work together to stop it,” you say. But actions speak louder than words.

You refuse to heed the advice of your own antisemitism envoy, who has clearly outlined the necessary steps: call a national cabinet meeting and implement mandatory sentencing for hate crimes.

Yet you remain inactive.

The Jewish community has seen no meaningful protection from your government over the past 15 months. From the shocking scenes at the Sydney Opera House, where hate-filled chants echoed across the forecourt, to the intimidation of Jewish students and lecturers at universities, to the desecration of synagogues and Jewish-owned businesses in Melbourne and Sydney—it has been one disgraceful event after another.

And now, the latest: the burning of a childcare center serving Jewish families. The response? Another weightless statement.

This is the boiling frog analogy in action—allowing hate to simmer unchecked until it erupts.

Your leadership has been complicit in this escalation.

Mr. Albanese, you and your government must take responsibility. Your inaction has emboldened these cowards, who see no real consequences for their actions. It is time to act decisively: enforce the laws we already have, strengthen penalties for hate crimes, and protect every citizen of this country, regardless of their faith or background.

If you fail to do so, the blame for what our country is becoming will rest squarely on your shoulders.
