Yarning Circle - 1 July - Gender Diversity

A great session at our #yarningcircle’s #bbgforum exploring the "wicked problem" of  gender diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, the benefits of solving this problem and strategies to build gender equality at work .

We have the Knowledge Shares of Rachelle Towart, (OAM)  Vanessa Porter, Martin Stark and Denise Archie , being facilitated by Kala Philip of BSI Learning

Some of the takeouts from the forum

Denise - taking Action and "doing things" is important . "DO' one thing each day!

Rob Lewis - Plan to incorporate change and gender inclusivity - words are cheap - take action

Martin Stark - shared a great message about the importance of respect, a safe environment, fear and courage

Vanessa - the importance and power of a connected community - embracing diverse thought and being inclusive

Kala - be resilient - don't take micro agressions personally - deal with them - WOmen need to get on boards - because that is when you can make a change

Hilton - Have the courage to call out a bias; change starts at top; Hold people accountable

Nola - understand culture ; dismantle the "gentlemans club" ; diversity in workplace is powerful , more informend and culturally safe; measure of how you want to go and how you are going - fill the gap

Dipka - educate from birth - to have empathy, to accept .... it starts from the home

Jeff - plannong and building foundations - take the long view  - education and building the right culture - vs just a bandaid; mindset is important; communication in workplace - a little badge communicating to the world that you can be safe with me - I wont make any judgements of you.

Mutual Respect is key - People don't care how much you know - until they know how much you care . How do you educate the decision makers - what will work?

Denise - supply nation - 3% needs an aboriginal business ; celebrate successes ; take action every week

The overall teme was "to take action" - lets do it together
