Why we need a Global Climate Action Forum

People ask - why you worried about such a trivial cause when people are dying in Ukraine ?

- there are terrorist attacks in Israel

- mental health in the Aboriginal Community and our entire community is an issue - with spiking suicides

- recividism in prisons!!!

πŸ”₯The science is telling us that Climate Change will make the above look like child’s play!

Things we can do

πŸ’Ž Eliminate fossil and oil in next 10 years - increase price - like cigarettes

πŸ’Ž There needs to be social compensation for those that will be effected and can’t afford change

πŸ’Ž Cuts and tax incentives

πŸ’Ž Needs govt intervention at top level - change of policies

Therevis an Historic opportunity for Australia to be a leader and transform into a climate neutral country limiting climate change and securing prosperity for future generations

πŸ’΄ $1tr needed

  • Transport and Storage
  • Heavy power grid expansion
  • Power plants powered by green gas
  • New facilities in steel chemical cement and lime switch to hydrogen dri
  • Power pants lowered by green gases
  • Air transport powered by green fuels. Alt power trains
  • Fossil process emissions in building materials
  • Reforestation
  • Electric cars - ramp up charging points
  • Energy efficient buildings
  • Heat Gen completely renewable
  • Electric biomass green gas vs fossil
Doing the above will provide employment and grow the economy

  • PROVIDE CHEAPER ENERGY FOR ALL
  • CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
  • BUILD A MODERN ENERGY NETWORK FROM RENEWABLES
  • REDUCECARBON FOOTPRINT BY DECARBONISING ENERGY
We  can reduce electricity bills while reducing our carbon footprint.

The world we have built is not suited to this fragile rock that we live on

There will be Societal upheavals - which will change the way we live - there always have been !!

We are in climate change now - Due to 100 years of inaction and exponential growth of our population

We  were nomads for a reason - What made us settle in 1 place - and multiply exponentially ? Was this a mistake?

Values and valuables

Things we think are valuable - are not so valuable!!!!

Things don’t stay same - never have

Predatory delay - we have been slowing the needed change, in order to make money improve lives - we have created  unsustainable, unjust systems.

People say they want change, - slowly - it’s the same as doing nothing - and is causing immeasurable harm. Winning slowly is the same as losing

The environment won’t listen to Dodgy accounting

Cannon Brookes Opportunity to buy AGL replace provision  of energy with renewables … and shut fossil fuel burning  in an orderly fashion”. Probably with change to spare.

We are in this change - we are a frog in a boiling bucket over past 20 years!!!!

Fracking
War

Why  are we on a path to self destruction ?

Why are we Eating and consuming ourselves to extinction

Where are we now - what’s a real diagnostic - that is credible and accepted by governments ?

Are we passed tipping points - where to from here?

Who do we save ?

What is the right # of people on this planet ?
Should we be nomadic ?

Interesting points from Ian  Dunlop

Ian Dunlop co-author of “What Lies Beneath: the understatement of existential climate risk”, and of the Club of Rome’s “Climate Emergency Plan”.

“climate system is close to tipping points that could drive it to a “point of no return”, where further warming would become self-sustaining. “

Existential threats require a particular approach to risk management.

The COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity to understand the world’s preparedness for such a risk, and how and why the world’s response, by and large, was grossly inadequate.

Climate disruption remains the greatest threat to human civilisation.

The world requires a very different set of policy responses to the climate crisis.

Drawing on Climate code red:

The case for emergency action,  an emergency response is one in which:
1. There is a brutally honest assessment of extinction if immediate action is not taken;
3. Bipartisanship government buy in
4. All available resources are devoted to the
emergency;
5. Non-essential functions and consumption curtailed or rationed;
6. Speed of response is crucial, and a rapid transition and scaling up occurs;
7. Research and innovation are fostered; and
8. Critical targets and goals are not compromised because failure is not an option.

A prudent approach to existential risk management, including for pandemics, would include the following:

1. A tough and objective look at the real risks  and consequences that could be devastating for human society;
2. Targets required to avoid catastrophic consequences, based on the latest science, within a qualitative, moral framework;
3. Being alert and prepared, including a flight strategy
5. No borders
6. Governments  aware and prepared
