British Labour is pledging a matching $ for $ investment of £28bn of green capital a year until 2030 to protect Britain from disaster - equivalent to more than half the current defence budget and 4 X it’s current investment .
Under Labour, Rachel Reeves said there would “no dither, no delay” in tackling the crisis - and that this investment would be matched with private money
This is an investment of £224bn on climate measures over the next eight years.
Investment’s could include
- gigafactories to build batteries for electric vehicles,
- the hydrogen industry,
- offshore wind turbines manufactured in Britain and more everyday infrastructure such as home insulation,
- cycle paths,
- tree planting
- and flood defences.
- A national nature service, - like the army - people spending 2 years national service - after school in climate related jobs
- education, training and upskilling the British public on climate - the #bbgclimateactionforum
- Investment into R&D and innovation
This will actually achieve a great ROI methinks
“As chancellor I will not shirk our responsibility to future generations and to workers and businesses in Britain … We will provide certainty and show leadership in this decisive decade. I will be a responsible chancellor. I will be Britain’s first green chancellor.” Say Reeves
Some thoughts
- climate action makes financial sense
- governments coming to play in green space
- national service for climate vs war
- we’re fighting a common enemy - global heating - a way to unite our global species
- investment of 50pc of defence budget - imagine if investment is 150% UKP80B per annum - if defence was not necessary
- protecting jobs of “coal workers” reskilling and upskilling miners for good
