Claudia Sheinbaum - Mexico’s first Woman and first Jewish President

Claudia Sheinbaum has been elected Mexico’s first Woman and first Jewish President.

The 61-year-old scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, won the election that saw high voter turnout despite sporadic violence in areas plagued by drug cartels.

Sheinbaum expressed her commitment to democracy and change at this historic election, which is seen as transformative for Mexico, especially among women.

Sheinbaum’s popularity is closely tied to the outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, her mentor and fellow leftist, who enjoyed an approval rating of over 60 percent but is limited to one term.

She has committed to continuing the “hugs not bullets” strategy of addressing crime by tackling its root causes, a controversial policy of the outgoing administration.

Sheinbaum faces the challenge of managing complex relations with the United States, particularly concerning drug smuggling and migration.

As Obama said in Sydney with Julie Bishop …

“give women the chance to rule the world and there will be peace within a year. “

Julie Bishop responded

 “it would take 3 months”
