APRA has hit Medibank more than $250m for a major Cyber Breech

2 months after Claire Pales and Anna Liebel shared the dangers of Cyber attacks last year at the BSI Cybersecurity Forum, Medibank had a major breech in its cybersecurity last year when over 10 million records were hacked from their systems

APRA has fined them $250m and  there are currently 3 class actions happening on behalf of customers - this cyber breech will scare the rest of Australia to take action.

There are huge efforts businesses are already delivering in order to prevent breaches.

What can we change?

Our behaviour says Alan Deutschman in the cover story Change or Die  concludes that we all have the ability to change our behavior, we rarely ever do.

The 3 keys to change is

relate, repeat, and reframe.

New hope, new skills, and new thinking.

Let’s collaborate as an industry and reframe

What happened with Medibank

In October, almost 10 million customer records were stolen from Medibank by criminal hackers, who later released parts of the information after demanding a random payment. The stolen 200gb of data included sensitive information on 480,000 policyholders’ medical conditions and treatment.

The records include personal information like names, dates of birth, addresses, and gender identities, as well as Medicare numbers and health claims.

Kala Philips of BSI Learning says …. Company officers need to take their responsibility to safeguard customer data seriously, and ensure they understand the consequences of cyber breeches and what you can do to stop this .
