From Terry Diomis
Although there’s no standard definition for what it means to be a confident person, here are six attributes that I believe separate a truly confident person from someone who is faking it.
1. THEY DON'T HOG THE SPOTLIGHT
Truly confident people don’t feel the need to shout their own praises from the rooftops. Although they might be happy with their achievements, they’re often found praising others and putting them in the spotlight.
2. THEY LISTEN MORE THAN THEY TALK
Confident people don’t need to tell everyone else their opinion, they are more interested in listening to what others think. The most confident people are often quiet and unassuming and ask a lot of questions.
3. THEY DON'T BELITTLE OTHERS
People who are comfortable and happy in themselves don’t need to put others down to make themselves feel better. Truly confident people are usually not found gossiping about others, instead they spend time working on improving themselves.
4. THEY VALUE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Confident people don’t need the validation of having 500 Facebook friends or thousands of Twitter followers. They may have a large following but they value the relationships they have with their close friends and family more. Having the support of a few important people is far more beneficial in the long term than having thousands of acquaintances.
5. THEY AREN'T AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES OR LOOK SILLY
Truly confident people admit when they’re wrong and can even laugh about it. Insecure people may be scared to look foolish, but confident people don’t mind because they don’t need validation from others, they get it from themselves.
6. THEY AREN'T AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP
Confident people know that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. It also shows they respect and appreciate the skills of others.
I think true confidence is one of the most important attributes. It can make up for a lack of experience or qualifications, and can help create a successful solo business.
Do you think confidence is important? Are there other attributes that make someone a confident person?
