Confucius and digital marketing

By Michael Doyle _ the website marketing group

Let me get just a little bit “philosophical “ here because it is the middle of the week, and what better time to assess what you’ve been doing with your work days, so far, than by thinking over what philosophy can offer us also its coming up to Chinese new year and I've just finished a design for Cathay Pacific. .

Philosophers like Confucius may have lived thousands of years before us but the learned master speaks to us across ages. Even today, the teachings of this ancient philosopher may still be relevant — if you read between the lines.

Here are some those relevant musings you can apply to your very modern endeavors:

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

There are a thousand apps in the market and more are being developed every day. Not all of them will succeed. The reason is that instead of making the users' lives easier, most apps tend to complicate matters—even the simplest tasks—even more.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

There’s no reason to keep up the fast pace that some businesses and people are going. Yes. The digital world is going too fast and those who can't keep up will be left behind. But if you stick to that pace, which you might not be used to, you might just stumble. The key is to NOT STOP innovating work smarter not harder.

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

Indeed. Especially when your “beautiful” website isn't view-able on certain devices. So, in an odd way, Confucius may be telling you to make your website mobile responsive.

When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.

We should always be prepared to adjust our strategies, to achieve our targets when things are not working out the way we envisioned them- step back once in a while and look at things from an outsiders viewpoint.

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

That’s the holy grail, isn’t it? If you love digital marketing, then you may just be having the time of your life — you cant take your money with you when you die so enjoy the little things in life each day.

He who conquers himself is the mightiest warrior.
Confucius
