Accountants getting itchy feet

One-third of accountants are actively looking for new work, but this figure will double within the year, according to a survey from specialist job board Careers in Audit.

The poll of more than 1,400 accountants globally, including 67 in Australia, found 63% of respondents are either actively looking for work, or plan to do so in the coming 12 months.

The top reasons for their planned departures include failure to receive a pay rise or promotion, desire to work aboard, and dislike of company culture.

If accountants were to move abroad, the most desirable locations are western Europe, the UK, Australia and North America.

"Eight in 10 accountants would consider moving abroad for their next position, with better work-life balance, career progression and salary cited as the reasons for doing so," said an accompanying report.
